West Linn Students Make a Cry For Change

A May 25 screening of "Black Girl in Suburbia" was a landmark occasion for West Linn High School and the greater West Linn community. For one, it marked the first time that "Black Girl in Suburbia" director and WLHS alumnus Melissa Lowery had hosted a public showing of her award-winning documentary in her hometown. But more importantly, Thursday's event served as one of the first public forums in which West Linn residents discussed issues of racial discrimination in what is a predominately white community.
West Linn High School followed up Thursday's event with its first ever Inclusivity Day Friday, May 26, where students participated in workshops centered on a variety of inclusive topics. The list of more than 20 workshops wasn't mandatory, but interested students got to pick which workshops they took part in. [FULL STORY]
